Shop Local and Make a Difference
Shop Local: St. Vincent's Area

Since the closing of St. Vincent’s Hospital, businesses that depended on the hospital workforce and visitors have stuggled to stay in business.  The area surrounding the hospital has witnessed a dramatic loss in foot traffic, and at least 20 businesses have closed or moved as a result..

Support the character of your community and help keep these businesses alive with your patronage.
Find a list of affected businesses here!

Help the City Council Save the Mom & Pops!

Small Businesses are a vital component to our City's economy.  Speaker Quinn and the City Council, along with the Mayor's Office, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Small Business Services, and the Department of City Planning, are asking you to take a survey.

The goal is for local merchants and other active local entities to share information in an effort to shape citywide policy with regard to small business.

Paid Sick Leave Bill Re-Introduced: INT 0097-2010
With the backdrop of an unemployment rate exceeding the national average, City Council members heard a public hearing on paid sick time legislation.  If this bill passes, businesses can and will move outside of NYC to more hospitable areas where they can grow and compete. Jobs will be lost, hours reduced and wages lowered to pay for this misguided mandate.

Protections and guidelines are in place at the City, State and Federal level to ensure employees have the protections they need.  Keep NYC's job creation and growth economic engine running; don't enact a bad policy that will force businesses to downsize. Tell the City Council to do the right thing...NYC needs job creation, not job killing legislation.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has yet to take an official position on this bill. Email the Speaker and let her know how you feel about INT 0097!
