NYC Council Introduces Legislation to Increase Minimum Wage

On March 10, the NYC Council introduced legislation to raise the minimum wage to $30/hour through a phased schedule by 2030–2032. It will represent one of the most significant increases ever proposed in the U.S.

The GVCCC recognizes the importance of addressing affordability for workers. However, we share the concerns raised by both the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and Queens business leaders that a rapid increase of this scale could place significant strain on small businesses already facing high operating costs.

Potential impacts include reduced hiring, cuts to employee hours, and added pressure on neighborhood storefronts. Many small and mid-sized businesses may struggle to absorb such a sharp rise in labor costs.

We want to hear from you.

If you are a Lower Manhattan business owner, please share how a $30 minimum wage would affect your operations, staffing, and growth. Your input will help inform our advocacy on behalf of the small business community.
