Shop Bleecker Press Release

'Tis The Season to #ShopBleecker

The Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Announces #ShopBleecker, The Holiday Shopping Initiative, Will Return for a Third Year

New York, NY (October 23, 2019) – Starting November 1st, #ShopBleecker, the holiday shopping event that started three years ago as a way to reinvigorate the shopping district will return. This time celebrating the arrival of over two-dozen new businesses that now call Bleecker Street home; keeping the 20 blocks that comprise the beautiful and historic district a vibrant shopping, dining and nightlife destination.

To kick off this year's holiday shopping season, the Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and the businesses along Bleecker Street will be hosting a month-long shopping event, #ShopBleecker. The goal is to encourage consumers to support the businesses along Bleecker Street and take advantage of the special in-store events, and, of course, special deals, discounts, and the ever-popular raffle. (Last year, the total value of prizes in the raffle was close to $14,000.)

November 23rd has been designated #ShopBleecker Day. On this day, the 10 blocks west of 6th Avenue will be transformed into a cocktail party, with participating businesses offering up sips and nibbles to enhance the shopping experience.

"We have so much to celebrate", says Maria Diaz, Executive Director of the chamber. "Three years ago, Senator Brad Holyman released his "Bleaker on Bleecker: A SNapshot of High-Rent Blight" report. Since then over two-dozen stores have either arrives or have expanded on the street. We are especially delighted to see all the movement brought on us by Brookfield and hope to see all our new stores thriving. To revel in this, we have brought in nearly 50 stores (and counting) on the street to work collaboratively to showcase what Bleecker Street has to offer. The businesses are very appreciative of all the added exposure we have been able to provide to them in years past, and love that they get to collaborate with their neighboring businesses, building a stronger sense of community and improve the street. From west to east, Bleecker Street will be the destination for fashionistas, foodies and night owls."

This year's event is sponsored by Brookfield Properties, Lyft (who will be offering discount codes for riders coming to the street), NYU, Google, and the office of City Council Speaker Cory Johnson, as well as returning gold level business sponsors Fly London, Huckberry, Li-Lac Chocolates, Manhattan Walking Tours, Manousheh, Paul Smith, Reiss London, and long-time neighborhood business Village Apothecary.

Look for #ShopBleecker decals on the sidewalks in front of participating businesses and visit for a complete list of deals and events.
