DESCRIPTION

The High Line is at a pivotal moment in its already exciting history. In 2018 the High Line will open the Spur, a new section above the intersection of 30th Street and 10th Avenue that culminates in a wide public plaza.

Committed to being a public park for the residents of New York and local Chelsea neighbors, the opening of the Spur along with several upcoming major artist-led projects and performances, present new and exciting opportunities to engage both nearby neighbors and New Yorkers from across all five boroughs.

Friends of the High Line is seeking an experienced project manager to plan and implement a diverse array of community engagement activities related to the High Line’s 2018 programming season. The qualified candidate will have direct experience in cultural community engagement and strong communication and interpersonal skills to successfully manage and help produce complex creative partnerships and projects.

The position is full-time, temporary with an end date of November 2018 and has potential for renewal.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact between FHL colleagues, community partners, artists and outside creative teams by helping organize and host community-related workshops and events and facilitating dialogues. Manage internal communications, organize meetings and establish schedules and timelines.
  • Support both visual and performing artists in creating and hosting community-related workshops and events, facilitating dialogues, organizing the meetings, and tabling at events
  • Develop and implement strategies to invite and encourage community participation with the long-term goal of supporting equitable engagement with local neighbors and NYC communities
  • Work with our Volunteer & Community Relations Coordinator to recruit, train and oversee volunteers and temporary staff for special initiatives and public events with the goal of creating equitable employment opportunities
  • Coordinate logistics for community-related projects and events by tracking contracts, scheduling meetings, writing copy, securing supplies, hiring photographers, etc.
  • Develop a process for evaluating the impact of the engagement activities by using surveys, requests for feedback, and other methods
  • Other duties as assigned. Willing to work weekends and evenings as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in community engagement or cultural programming
  • Experience as project manager and coordinating large groups of people
  • Ability to take initiative, work collaboratively, and be enthusiastic about the High Line, public engagement, public space, and cultural programming a must!
  • Excellent writing skills, and a high level of computer literacy, including experience with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong graphic presentation skills; fluency with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Demonstrated success and experience working with volunteers, youth, and diverse populations preferred
  • Experience working in the performing arts and outdoor, public settings a plus
  • Non-profit experience and knowledge of NYC-based cultural organizations and artists is preferred
